Andrej Smolak (Slovakia)

(Born in 1953, Humenné), painter and a gallery owner. In years 1974-1979 he has studied at the Visual arts department of the Faculty of Arts, of the Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Prešov, and in the year 1989 he was graduated from extraordinary study at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague. Since 1985 he acts as a freelance occupation artist. From the year 1993 he manages the Gallery Andrej Smolák in Snina, which was established as an affiliated branch of the MIRO Gallery in Berlín. In the year 1998 he opened a gallery also in Bratislava. He is the founder of the International Fine Art Festival in Snina. Ander Smolák is prize winner of the Franz Kafka European Award (1988), European Union Art Award (2002) and also of the International Salvador Dalí Award (2003). In the year 2004 he established a private primary art school in Snina, and he began realize a global project „Painted Equator Gallery“. He is administrator of the ART.EAST Foundation. In the year 2006 he received honorary art award from the Art and Culture Association in Marigliano, Italy, in the year 2007 he was appointed as the honorary member -correspondent of the International Culture and Art Academy in Moscow. In the same year he established the KREMENEC Foundation for promotion of Rusyns´ culture and traditions preservation. In the year 2008 he received a special award Artista Segnalato – artistic discovery of the year, in Italian Grottamare. In the year 2009 he received an award of the International Jury in Italian Grottamare for works of art. In the same year he was awarded by Silver Award for services to art from International Culture and Art Academy in Moscow. In the year 2010 he became member of this Academy – an academician - and together he was awarded by Gold Award for services to art from International Culture and Art Academy in Moscow. In the year 2010 he received also a medal „In the name of life on the Earth“ by the GOOD PEOPLE OF THE WORLD movement in Moscow. In the year 2011 he became Director of the Slovak branch of the International Culture and Art Academy in Moscow and he was awarded with the Order of Peace Grade 2. In the year 2013 he was awarded by the Premio Speciale Della Critica – Special Award of the Critic, in the Italian town Porto Sant´Elpidio. He is a prizewinner of the Peter Chudík´s, Chairman of the Prešov self-governing county, award for culture development in the region.
